2014 Under 21

Under21B County Final Result  Cappawhite/Sean Treacys 0:15 Moyle Rovers 1:14

We were very unlucky in Cashel today in a very keenly contested game. Moyle Rovers edged it in the end with the only goal of the game being the vital score. The game was pretty even for the 1st 10 minutes with both teams swapping scores but in what proved to be the portion of the game that would have the impact on the final score Moyle Rovers went from 3 points to 2 points down to a 6 point lead scoring 1:04 before we scored again. Going in at the interval we were down by 1:07 to 007. We had the wind behind us in the 2nd half but started by conceding 4 points from 4 frees. At this stage we started to take command of the game with some great performances from our team. Unfortunately we could never get ahead of our opponents and had to settle for runners up. Overall the players can be very proud of their performance but a special mention has to go to Sean Ryan(R) in the 1st half and Sean Ryan(W) in the 2nd half  who were outstanding. We would like to thank the team and mentors for bringing back a West Title and doing us so proud in a county final.

Under 21B County semi Final Cappawhite/Sean Treacys 1:10 Newport Geals 1:09

We had a great result on Sunday the 28/12/2014 beating a strongly fancied Newport Geals in the County semi-final by a score line of 1:10 to 1:09. In a game where we struggled in periods going in behind 4 points down at half time on a score of !;07 to 6 points we never gave up. The crucial move which swung the game in our favor was   the introduction of Fergal Ryan who scored the all important goal. Kevin Stapleton then scored the vital winning point 2 minutes into injury time. We have now to await the winners of J K Brackens V the south champions in the final.

Junior A Football:

Cappawhite 3:11 Sean Treacys 3:12. In an exciting game played on Friday evening  25/7/2014 our footballers were narrowly defeated by just one point. It was a must win game to proceed in the championship and the nerves showed in the 1st half when we kicked some wides when we could have scored and Sean Treacys took advantage of our misses and went in leading by 1:05 to 1:02 with our goal coming from Eanna Heffernan.

The second half got off to a bad start when we conceded 3 points in the first five minutes but then we took control of the game. In the next twenty minutes we turned a 5 point defecate into a 4point lead. At this stage needing a 5 point winning margin we had to keep attacking but in the end we got caught in two counter attacks and ended up losing by the minimum. Overall it was a great team proformance but John McGrath has to get a special mention for his 4 points from play which were outstanding.

Junior A Football:

Our footballers had a very good win against Arravale Rovers on Friday night last by a scoreline of 2-10 to 3-04 in Solohead. The early exchanges were very even with the 1st score coming on the sixth minute when Kevin Stapleton finished a great team move to the net. Within a couple of minutes the sides were level as Arravale scored a goal which was to be their only score of the half. Cappawhite scored a second goal when Tommy Flaherty finished another fine move. From this on we took control of the game and went in at half time leading by 2-05 to 1-00. The second half started with Cappawhite again seeming to be in control of the game going in to a 2-09 to 1-03 lead. But with about 10 minutes remaining Arravale scored a second goal and from then on sterted to put us under severe pressure. They scored another 1-01 before we got another point and we managed to hold out for the victory. Best on the night were Paddy Julian,Dennis Kelly, John Mcgrath, Kevin Mullins, Kevin Stapleton and Michael O Neill.

Junior B hurling:

Cappawhite were beaten by a scoreline of 0-15 to 0-11 on Sunday against Sean Treacys in Annacarty. The first half was a evenly contested game with Cappawhite coming out on top for the first quarter and went in to a 0-05 to 0-02 lead with 3 scores from Dean O Dwyer frees and 2 fine scores from play from Darragh Clancy and Paddy Julian. But Sean Treacys finished the half the stronger and the sides went in level on 5 points each.

At the start of the 2nd alf it looked as things might be going our way when we scored 2 early points but then Sean Treacys started to take control. They went on to score 10 points with Cappawhite only able to find 4 more scores. It was disappointing to be beaten but it was encouraging to see our young players getting some excellent scores in the second half from Jim O Dwyer, Fergal Ryan and Darragh Clancy.

Team: M R Buckley, D Stapleton, P O Neill(0-02f), P Barry, M O Connor, D O Dwyer(0-04f), M Ryan, P Julian(0-01), J English, E O Meara, F Ryan(0-01), J Kirby, D Clancy(0-02) B Buckley, J O Dwyer(0-01). Subs S Ryan for B Buckley and R Fitzgearld for E O Meara.

Junior B Hurling:

Our Junior hurlers had a good win on Tuesday night against Galtee Rovers in Cappawhite. In a first half where scores were hard to come by we went in leading on a scoreline 8 points to 3 with some good play by Paddy Julian, Dean O Dwyer and our two coner forwards of Jim O Dwyer and Darragh Clancy. Cappawhite came out in the second half and started to show our superiority and opened up a eight point lead with some well taken points by Cian Marnane and Dean O Dwyer from placed balls. Galtee Rovers then scored a goal to narrow the lead but again we hit back with a couple of scores. The game finished on a scoreline of 17 points to 1 08. It was a great overall performance by all of the team especially Jason Maguire, Pat O Neill, Paddy Julian, Dean O Dwyer, Darragh Clancy, Jim O Dwyer and substitute Cian Marnane.

Junior A Football:

Cappawhite were beaten by Emly on Saturday night last the 24th of May. In an exciting game played in good conditions we started very well. Cappawhite went 4 points up after a very good move involving Tommy Flaterty, Thomas Costello and Darragh Barry leading to a goal scored by Darragh. As the game went on Emly started to come back at us and the score at the interval was level at 1 02 to 5 points. Emly were the stronger team at the start of the second half punished us with some well taken scores. But the Cappa boys never gave up and finished the stonger but just could not convert it to the scoreboard. Overall it was a good team performance and hopefully we can build on this as the competition goes forward and reach the knock out stages.

Team: T Carr, C McCarthy, P Fitzgearld, J P Julian, M Ryan(w), D Kelly, R Dunne, D Heffernan(0 01), J McGrath(0 01), K Stapleton, T Costello, K Mullins(0 03), D Barry(1 00), T Flaterty, M O Neill.           Subs J Bradshaw for T Flaterty, J English for J P Julian, J Kirby for M Ryan(w), E Heffernan for M O Neill and C Marnane for D Barry.

Minor Hurling: In a close encounter in Cappawhite on Wednesday night 9/07/2014 our hurlers had a hard fought victory against near neighbours Eire Og by a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-10. Cappawhite played the better of the two teams in the 1st half and could have went in with a bigger lead but still were ahead by 11 pints to 6 at half time. We stated the second half by stretching our lead but as the game went on Eire Og came back into the match. We gave a lot of easy frees away which gave them the upper hand. But for the last few minutes we again did the better hurling and came out on top at the end of game with a four point winning margin.
